Smart Health Europe: Messe Berlin and Bitkom launch international congress and trade show on the digitalisation of healthcare
Smart Health Europe will take place for the first time at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds from 13 to 15 April 2027. With a mix of trade fair, congress and networking, it brings together decision-makers from business, healthcare, science and research, and politics.
Messe Berlin and the digital association Bitkom are launching Smart Health Europe, a new international event format for digital health. With a mix of trade show, congress and networking, Smart Health Europe will become the central meeting place for the European digital health community. It brings together decision-makers from business, healthcare, science and research, and politics. The aim is to accelerate the digital transformation of healthcare in Europe and strengthen dialogue between technology providers, users and political decision-makers. Bitkom's Digital Health Conference will take place as part of Smart Health Europe in future and will form the centrepiece of the trade shows's conference programme.
‘With Smart Health Europe, we are building on our many years of experience in the healthcare industry and bringing together the relevant stakeholders in the field of digital health,’ says Dr Mario Tobias, CEO of Messe Berlin. ‘Messe Berlin is an international hub for the healthcare industry, research and technology, making it the ideal location for shaping the future of digital healthcare in Europe.’
‘Together, we want to drive forward the digital transformation of the healthcare system and thus significantly improve healthcare provision for people in Germany and Europe,’ says Bitkom CEO Dr Bernhard Rohleder. ‘We are delighted to bring together stakeholders from politics, the healthcare industry, start-ups, tech companies, health insurance providers, the medical profession, and academia within an expanded European framework. Health data, artificial intelligence and digital care are shaping the future of our healthcare systems – and we want to shape this future together with Messe Berlin.’
A holistic view of the future of digital healthcare
Smart Health Europe is dedicated to the key topics of digital transformation in healthcare – from artificial intelligence in diagnostics and care to health data and interoperability, telemedicine and digital care, data security and data protection, smart care, and politics and regulation. In addition to the exhibition, participants can look forward to a high-calibre conference programme featuring leading national and international experts from the fields of medicine, science, politics and industry. Interactive workshops, best practice sessions and matchmaking formats offer practical insights and create opportunities for collaboration.
Focus on Europe – Globally Networked
The event is the European counterpart to Smart Health Asia, which is set to premiere in Singapore on 1 and 2 July 2026. “With Smart Health Europe and Smart Health Asia, we are building a bridge between Europe, Asia, and the rest of the world,” explains Dr Mario Tobias, CEO of Messe Berlin. ‘We combine global innovative strength with regional expertise, offering stakeholders an international platform to showcase their solutions.’
Smart Health Europe is a new addition to Messe Berlin's existing portfolio of technology and digitalisation trade shows and congresses. This includes the Fintech Festival FIBE, the developer conference droidcon, and the Smart Country Convention — a congress and trade show focusing on the digitalisation of the public sector. Messe Berlin organises this event in cooperation with the digital association Bitkom.
From 9 to 11 June 2026, bio:cap will also celebrate its premiere – an international investival for biotechnology and artificial intelligence that connects investors, industry, science and research. Partners include Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH) and the Hasso Plattner Institute.
The DMEA digital health trade show will take place for the last time at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds from 21 to 23 April 2026. Messe Berlin and the German Association of Healthcare IT, the brand owner of DMEA, will not continue their collaboration from 2027 onwards.
